Minutes of the Reading Council for Voluntary Youth Services (RCVYS)
Meeting held on Tuesday 19 October 2004 at the YMCA, Parkside Road Reading from 12-2pm

2 Matters arising from previous Minutes:
It was decided to leave the name change until the next meeting
3 Update
Cath is now a member of the board of CYPSP. She pointed out that there was masses of paperwork associated with the work of the board and very important issues around confidentiality. The role of the board is to commission all children's services and to inform and be involved in the political process working with local councillors.
There was a brief discussion on how the voluntary sector might wish to participate.
Reading Trailblazers.
This group of 12 proactive voluntary organisations has obtained funding for a project on youth participation. It is based on peer to peer consultation to be captured on video and fed back to the strategic partnership.(nb item 5 on Agenda)
Connexions Berkshire
The chief executive is Katherine Horler and the local manager for Reading Gina Carpenter. Stephan Honigsberg is the liaison person for the voluntary and community sector and responsible for E2E project.
Reading Compact- this group is made up of the Fire, Police, voluntary sector, the Council and the health Services. The group discussed issues of principal and strategy with the intention of resolving differences to allow progress.
4 Kirsten Carr is the new Principal Youth Officer for Reading Borough Council and Barbara Perry will be the new Director of No5 Young People's Counselling service.
6 NVQ. An NVQ in Youth work is now available for part time workers- recognition of their experience.
7 Funding- not discussed at this meeting
8 The committee was reminded that RYCVYS has funds for bursaries.
9 There was no update on Finance as the treasurer was not present at this meeting. The good news is that the Development Worker post is to continue (Cath).
The meeting closed at 2.15pm The date of next meeting will be January 25 1-2pm at the YMCA.
